The River Otter

The River Otter is usually a nocturnal animal that likes fresh water rivers and streams. I have consistently found them along the canal that runs along the Golf Course, mostly on the northern end of the park.

The ones I have seen at The Glades have been on the larger size and usually really dark in color. That is probably because they were wet. I hear they are a light brown in color when dry. They are stocky and range from 10-30lbs. River Otters are in the weasel family and the young are called kits.

The River Otter is found throughout Florida, except for the Keys. They eat fish, reptiles, crustaceans and can eat birds, insects and small mammals. And as with the rest of the wildlife here at The Glades Resort, please keep your distance and do not feed them. (This includes pets!) Keep the wildlife wild!
