Limpkins

Ever wonder what that screeching bird looks like? Here is your culprit. The Limpkin makes this loud screech, it almost sounds like a baby or small child crying out! They are also guilty of leaving all of those large apple snail shells by the waters edge, as they are one of the Limpkins favorite foods.

The Limpkin is a fairly large bird with a wingspan of up to 42”! And they get their name from a noticeable “limp” when walking. A ground nesting bird, they can be found throughout Florida in marshy places or waters edge. The numbers have been increasing lately in the state of Florida and the state is the northern most range of this unique bird.
